SIDE TRACKED BY OASIS RETURN

Yes it is practically everywhere.  The Oasis comeback.  You tube, you name it and it is full of it.  For those who do not consider themselves fans of the duo, better be prepared for it, as the shows are a year on - with plenty time for discussion, predictions and rumours of various happenings, some of which may well be true.

They say that music unites us, but especially with upcoming gigs, provoking excitement, nostalgia and much splashing out on over priced tickets.  Many people watch the minimum of 'news' feeling that it is not very positive for various reasons including sensationalism, bleakness or views which are biased.  There are triggers too, as we live in a society of increased mental health awareness, we may simply switch off to protect ourselves.

After much fuss and 'mania' with Miss Taylor Swift doing the rounds with her tour, it occurs that this may well be a great distraction from other events, as well as her being a phenomena in her own right.  So as the news enlightens us of the latest incident of which we can do little about, do we now turn out focus to these brothers, adding a significance which may not be there in order to have a positive focal point.

As a guilty party of this finding it fascinating that I loved this band back in the nineties and that the youngsters today also rate them. It links us somehow.  Getting tickets will be a hassle no doubt but will it be worth it? No one wants to watch and feel underwhelmed but has too much time lapsed to fully immerse ourselves in what some may call 'dated music'.

Having watched a few documentaries on them it really brings it home: the fame, the personalities and the love of their fans.  Back in the day I listened to the CD's while living over in Paris and had absolutely no notion or inclination of their success but music is a powerful tool and every time I hear 'Maybe....' I am almost transported back to those years and it does not feel unpleasant.

As a reference to time music speaks strongly to us.  But are these two working class, older musicians with attitude with a capital A. relevant today?  We have all grown and developed but the music is set in time however the beat and noise and the magic they capture may well still be very much alive.  I confess to not having shown any interest in Beady eye or High flying birds, the groups they went on to be a part of individually. But this reunion caught my eye.

Is it good news?  Is it financially driven, because we all want to feel like special fans north and south.  Whatever it may be, even the reconciliation of two down to earth, sometimes wild individuals with millions of fans worldwide, is being welcomed by many....

With the news broadcasting these gigs on the headlines, let the generations sing together and celebrate the universal tracks.  That which unites us plays a significant role in our outlook.  If it is a much needed distraction then let it be.
